Kim Basile (born the year of Meat Joy) is a painter whose work combines realism and abstraction. A native of Arkansas, she currently lives and works in Chicago, Illinois, but often travels back to Arkansas to complete her pieces.
Combining her rural upbringing and urban adult life, themes emerge that emphasize cultural differences and similarities. Contemplating the mundane, the routine, and the simplicity of everyday life, her works often appear in a series.
Working primarily in oil and acrylic, she incorporates found objects, photography, collage,
performance, welding, and marksmanship into her work.
Kim has a Bachelor of Social Work degree and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She is currently an MFA candidate at Vermont College of Fine Arts, in partnership with CalArts.
